Why talk to AI when you could talk to a person?
Real conversation is irreplaceable, but it has barriers: finding a partner, matching schedules and not being afraid of mistakes. An AI partner is available any minute, never tires of repetition and never judges. It is a good warm-up that makes talking to people easier.
How the practice works
- Level. Set your level so the replies are understandable without being too simple.
- Translation. Turn it on to see translations of replies, and turn it off when you feel confident.
- Any topic. From weather and travel to job interviews and discussing a film.
10 conversation starters
- Tell me about your day, and ask me about mine.
- Let’s role-play: I’m ordering coffee in London.
- Interview me for a job as a designer.
- Correct my mistakes in this message: …
- Explain the difference between “make” and “do” with examples.
- Give me three phrasal verbs about work and quiz me.
- Let’s discuss a film I watched yesterday.
- Help me write a polite email asking for a day off.
- Ask me five questions about my hobbies.
- Pretend you’re a tourist asking me for directions.
Tips
- Write full sentences even when one word would do.
- Ask for corrections: “Please correct my mistakes.”
- Save new words to your own word list and review them in Learn Your Words.
- Five minutes every day beats an hour once a week.
